Shrub Love – How to Keep Your Bushes Beautiful

Jun 19, 2025 01:20PM EDT

Shrubs add structure, color, and privacy to your landscape, but they need regular care to stay in shape. One of the most important parts of shrub maintenance is trimming. Without it, shrubs can become overgrown, leggy, or even unhealthy. Trimming encourages fuller growth and better airflow, which helps reduce the risk of pests and diseases. It also allows more sunlight to reach inner branches and surrounding plants.

Most shrubs benefit from light pruning throughout the growing season, but major trimming should be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Always cut just above a bud or branch node and remove any dead or crossing branches. Use clean, sharp shears to avoid damaging the plant. With a regular trimming routine, your shrubs will reward you with dense foliage, vibrant flowers, and a neat, natural appearance all season long.
